THOSE who become placed workshop

thu 21.5. AT 5 pm start from Hällä STAGE

Site specific observation exercises for embodiment enthusiasts

The multidisciplinary artist-researcher group Those Who Become Placed (in Finnish: Paikantujat) shares practice through participatory observation and movement exercises that utilize multisensorial thinking. Through sensitivity there emerges multispecies knowledge on how the space is, how I am and how others are in the space. The exercises are carried out independently, as well as in pairs and small groups. In the end we leave time for joint discussion.

The working group consists of architect-researcher Elina Alatalo, dance artists Hanna Kahrola and Tuuti Touhunen, artistic mentor Jaakko Simola and documenter Mia Tiihonen.

We will work outside in the urban space of Tampere city center. Please wear weather-appropriate clothing and shoes. The workshop is aimed at people who are interested in embodiment and urban space in transition.

Date: Thursday the 21st of May 2026 at 5 pm – 6.30 pm
Meeting point: Dance Theatre MD lobby, Hällä Stage, Hämeenkatu 25
Registration in advance: liput@tanssivirtaa.net

Those Who Become Placed develop a joint practice of architectural research and activistic dance. We are interested in how embodied movement can help people to be present in urban transformation.

We are working with a project where we develop movement methods related to embodied care, in the Hiedanranta area in Tampere, Finland, in the area that is undergoing a dramatic scale of change. We want to help people working in and visiting the area to live as part of the transition. Through physical activity, we practice creating a relationship with places and through this, we develop our agency in the space. The workshops we organise in that area enable also encounters between people working in and those interested in the area. The interdisciplinary project focuses on comprehensively studying the Hiedanranta area in transition. In the field trip in Copenhagen we want to deepen our knowledge by comparing our findings with international colleagues to develop our practice.
